MARDAN: Jamaat-i-Islami emir Sirajul Haq on Monday said his party would protect mosques and seminaries in the country at all costs.
“We can’t stand the humiliation of ulema, mosques and seminaries and will resist any attempt to harm them,” he said during a public meeting at Jaiwor area in Takhtbai tehsil.
The JI emir said his party would pay salary to prayer leaders of mosques every month after coming to power.
He said the nation should get united under the current delicate circumstances.
Haq said the Islamic system of governance offered the only solution to the country’s problems, including terrorism, loadshedding and unemployment.
He expressed concern over the Army Public School Peshawar carnage and asked the government to ensure speedy probe into it for the punishment of its perpetrators.
The JI emir said the US and its allies had admitted their failure in restoring peace in Afghanistan. He said his party would clear Pakistan of the US agents in 2015 with the help of the people.
Haq said his party had been striving for the introduction of Islamic system of governance in the country and would need the people’s support for it. He said few moneyed families had been ruling and looting the country since its creation 67 years ago.
The JI emir said former military ruler Pervez Musharraf was to blame for terrorism in the country and that currently, the country faced an extraordinary security situation.
He said the ruling elite didn’t care for the poor people and instead it served own interests.

I am devout Muslim but the following laws need to be adopted immediately if Pakistan is to prosper:
a) A call to Jihad can ONLY be made by the state and no one else (i.e. private groups, mosques, NGOs).
b) Strict hate speech laws need to be passed that punish anyone inciting physical harm to any sect or religion
c) Religious organizations collecting charitable contributions need to detail their expenses in stringent yearly audits

All good...however Mr. Sirajul Haq...would be interesting to hear your take on current socioeconomic issues faced by people of Pakistan...and the solution that you think may be put to use to fix those problems...before coming elections...people of Pakistan certainly want to hear your stand on those issues of vital national interest...

The present Emir of JI is more measured in his comments but we should never forget, where his predecessor stood, which is truly indicative of the reactionary agenda of the party. He stated that women who were raped should stay quiet, as four witnesses to such as crime could never be produced; he called the Taliban savages 'our brothers', Baitullah Mehsud 'a martyr', refused to say that those soldiers who died in the line were martyrs, called Osama Bin Laden ' Syed ul Shuhada' and the list goes on. In the guise of trying to bring an Islamic rule which they claim would rid the society of all ills, these parties and their leaders want to deprive women of their rights, sow seeds of sectarian hatred and are willing to bring their preferred system even if it is brought in through the inhuman and brutal tactics of the Taliban and other Jihadis. If this is not treason, what is it?

What really needs to be protected is innocent public life that is where current administration failed badly. Mr Sirsjul Haq, please do understand why heavy handed politics is being discussed at those places where prime reason to gather is to pray and not discuss politics, suicide bombs etc.? Hope you get the point! Those institutions need not to impose their version of Islam on others forcibly. In short, religion is very private matter between individual and Almighty not those institutions as our gatekeeper for heaven!

Would he be paying the salaries of all the priests of other faiths? His party has no chance of winning so he is just mudding the waters. Someone should ask him how would the law to pay salaries if imams read? It would run afoul of the equal treatment clause of the Constitution.

JI is the party whose student wing Islami Jamiat e Talaba introduced terror in Pakistani campuses in 1970's. They regularly terrorized students with guns and daggers during the student unions elections. The culture of enforcing their will, in the name of Islam by use of terror, was born in our campuses in 1970's and spread out to masses. The same people have been at the helm of JI politics and are ideological parents of Talibani thought.

If you had little bit shame or Iman in your heart, you should have come out on the street with Imran Khan to get rid of this corrupt government. This is Siraj's real face. At the core all jamaitis are the same, be Munawar or Siraj. This is why this war is so difficult to fight becauue you have their sympathizers in our society and community. I have a question, people like siraj, imran and fazlu,should they be sitting in the APC? What ever you discuss and decide should be off limit for them, rather then terrorists knowing what you are planning against them.

IJ chief is also assuring regular pay for each prayer leaders/ clerics so they will serve their agenda and provide exact narrative as per their desires. Paying to prayer leader was started first time by one of the Muslim emperors and then clerics and prayer leaders were no longer remained free; they became emperor's spokes person and they were bound to obey the orders of emperors hence emperor's narrative serving their personal interests was included during interpretation while true religion was twisted and deviated. Current state of deviations in religion are consequence of initial deviation. IJ is praising such practices rather condemning them.
Gradually all supporters of terrorists are emerging with their actual faces. Initially they condemned Peshawar school attack just because of public pressure and in order to protect t their image in public but in reality their hearts beat with the hearts of terrorists.

Interesting. The state must no longer tolerate hate speakers. Any ulema or mullah found spouting hatred sould be tried, imprisoned and re-educated.
We've tolerated enough scapegoating of others, including minorities. It's about time the state protected it's citizens and provided all with balanced education.
