CHARSADDA: A two-storey building of a private school run by a non-government organisation was blown up in Kangra area here in the wee hours on Monday.

SHO Batgram told Dawn that unknown miscreants had planted an improvised explosive device near the building of Miss Sonia Public School in Kangra area run by an NGO, Human Development, which went off with a bang early on Monday. As a result, two rooms of the school were destroyed while rest of the building was partially damaged.

A water purification plant installed at the school for provision of clean drinking water to children was also destroyed in the blast. The blast was so powerful that it was heard far and wide in the area.

Mr Shahid, owner of the school, said that he had no enmity with anybody. The police registered case against unknown miscreants and started investigation.

Meanwhile, the bomb disposal unit personnel defused an IED planted near the residence of former MNA Hameed Khan in Shabqadar area.

Police said that unknown miscreants had planted the device but it could not explode. They said that it was a time device and that 300 gram explosives were used in the home-made bomb.

Sources said that after failing to take extortion money from the former lawmaker, miscreants planted an IED near his house to terrorise him. The MNA had already reported the matter to the Shabqadar police.
