PESHAWAR: The central procession of Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain will be taken out from Imambargah Alamdar at Qissa Khwani here today (Saturday).

According to Majlis Wahdat-ul-Muslimeen spokesman Irshad Hussain Bangash, the main procession would be joined by processions from different areas like Akhunabad, which will then proceed through Chowk Shahbaz, Mohalla Marveeha and Kochi Bazaar, and end at Kocha Risaldar.

Prominent scholars, including Allama Abid Hussain Shakri, Allama Sarwar Sarhadi and Allama Irshad Hussain, will address the mourners on the occasion.

On Friday, a procession appeared from Imambargah Lal Shah at Mohalla Haseena, which passed through its traditional route and ended at Jafria Street.

The Alam and Zuljinah procession was taken out amid tight security where in addition to the security personnel the volunteers of Imamia Students Organisation (ISO) also remained on guard and searched the participants.

Several nohakhwan, including Shehzada Ali Akbar, recalled the sacrifices of Hazrat Imam Hussain and his companions they offered at Karbala.

The district administration of Peshawar has already banned pillion riding under Section 144 and restricted the movement of Afghan nationals in sensitive areas.

The residents have been asked to avoid roaming in the areas of processions without permission from the relevant authorities.

Police have set up a command post at Kohati area in addition to many other posts at the sensitive locations where employees of different government departments remained alert to facilitate the mourners in case of any problem.

Police officials of different police stations, including Yakatoot, Khan Raziq, Hashtnagri and Gulbahar, said that they had already tightened security since Dec 8 and the situation was under control.

They said that some 3,000 personnel had been deployed at different places and the entry and exit points in the provincial metropolis.

The bomb disposal unit personnel were seen checking the procession’s route with detectors and sniffer dogs to avert any untoward incident.
