KARACHI: Two young men allegedly involved in extorting money from motorcycle-rickshaw drivers were shot dead in Orangi Town on Thursday afternoon, the Pakistan Bazaar police said.

They added that the men were sitting at the terminal of the Qingqi rickshaws in Sector-13 when four suspects riding two motorcycles opened indiscriminate fire on them and fled.

They sustained multiple bullet wounds and were taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where doctors pronounced them dead on arrival.

The deceased identified as 30-year-old Yasir Fasih and 28-year-old Tahir Hayat were collecting Rs100 in extortion from each Qingqi rickshaw in the area daily and there were at least 500 such rickshaws, Pakistan Bazaar SHO Rana Maqsood said.

According to the hospital official, Yasir sustained nine bullet wounds while Tahir received three bullets.

“The double murder appears to be the outcome of the extortion-related activity,” the SHO added.

Yasir was a resident of Ghazi Goth in Manghopir while Tahir was living in Orangi-5 near the police station.

Man found dead in Mochko

A man was found shot dead in Mochko on Thursday, the police said.

They added that the body of the man in his early 30s was found near a technical college in Musharraf Colony.

A single bullet was fired at his head, said Mochko SHO Chaudhry Saleem.

The body was taken to the Edhi morgue for want of identification after medico-legal formalities at the Civil Hospital Karachi.

Guard shot dead

A private security guard was shot dead in the SITE area on Thursday.

The police said that when 50-year-old Habib Khan left for home after duty, gunmen attacked him near the Zia Colony roundabout.

He sustained a single bullet wound and was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

The murder might be an outcome of personal enmity, SITE-A SHO Fasih Zaman said.

Man killed in Saudabad

A 35-year-old man was shot dead in Saudabad on Thursday night, police said.

They added that Shamshad Ata was riding a motorbike when gunmen attacked him near Sheesh Mahal. He sustained critical wounds and died while he was being taken to hospital.

The police claimed that the deceased, a resident of Sahibdad Goth, was a member of the Sohail Dada gang in the area.

Man shot dead in Defence

A young man was shot dead by suspected robbers over resistance in Defe­nce on Thursday, according to police.

Imtiaz Lashari, 30, was driving a car when two suspects intercepted him near Defence ‘Mor’ off Korangi Road. The suspects opened fire on him when he put up resistance for mobile snatching, said Defence SHO, Kansan Dean. He sustained critical injuries and died later on in a hospital.
