‘Unprovoked’ Indian firing kills Pakistani soldier at LoC

ISLAMABAD: Hours after Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said that Pakistan will speak with Kashmiri leaders before it enters into dialogue with India, a Pakistan army soldier was killed by Indian troops’ ‘unprovoked firing’ at the LoC in Pandu sector near Muzaffarabad on Thursday.

A statement issued by the Pakistan Army’s Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that “Pakistani troops befittingly responded to Indian firing”.

The incident took place the same day when PM Sharif visited Azad Jammu-Kashmir (AJK) capital and extended his support to Kashmiris for their right of self determination.

A little more than a month ago, at least 14 civilians were killed and 50 others were injured by the cross border firing at LoC and the Working Boundary (WB).

In December last year, Pakistan and India had pledged to uphold the 2003 LoC ceasefire accord which had been left in tatters by repeated violations that year. The truce breaches had put the nascent bilateral peace dialogue on hold.

The Himalayan territory of Kashmir is divided between India and Pakistan by the UN-monitored de facto border of LoC but is claimed in full by both the countries.

Ceasefire violations along the LoC and Working Boundary between Pakistan and India continue intermittently, with casualties reported on both sides.

Why can't army chiefs of both countries meet and resolve these issues. This situation is not good for both countries. Dialogue should be at every level. Army should meet army, both PMs should meet and resolve these issues. In the current situation a junior most Sepoy can trigger a full blown war. Economies of both countries need to improve. There are no enough jobs on both side of the border, there is no electricity, enough drinking water on both sides of the country. There is poverty on both sides of the border. To solve these problems both countries should engage with each other.

@Ramesh Krishnan Yes unprovoked. What's so funny about it. India did not like Shareef taking a stand with Kashmiris so Modi (With his usual smile and concealed dagger in left hand) decided to reply with a fire across LoC. If that is what Modi wants, that is what he will get in reply.

Show of supremacy is making India crazy as Pakistan is strongly resisting the move....This is dangerous for the subcontinent and for India itself... The world powers wanted Pakistan to utilise it's military on the other side of the border on a guarantee that India Pak border is going to be tension free but India does not want things to be stabilised in Pakistan therefore using cheap tactics.

@Manoj I agree. The day India quit it's occupation of Muslim majority Kashmir the day we will see friendly relations taking place over night. Had Pakistan occupied a Hindu majority state (Rajasthan, Gujarat or Haryana no one in India would have accepted it).

Bharat is desperate to protect its assets (fazlullah, umar khalid etc), now that she is been kicked out of Afghanistan, there are desperate attempts to some how save the terrorists on their payroll to continue the effort of destabilization in Pakistan. Modi has just come in and formulated a clear policy of strong response....which the Pakistani army does not know how to deal with (they are used to the congress govt dithering over what to do and sitting quietly)...India is not interested in instigating but yes India will respond with full force to all instigation

@Uzair For your information more than 1.5 crore Indians today working in call centres in India, includes International and Domestic Call Centre. Call Centre employees got saturday & sunday as weekly off. They got transport facility.They got all government benefits like provident fund,gratuity,Mediclaim policy,Bonus etc. The turnover of all Call Centres in India is approx. Rs.20000 Crore per year. Now you tell me what do you know about Call Centres in India?

A food for thought for Pakistanis. India has the largest army in south Asia. Are guns blazing on borders of India with Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh ( a Muslim country) , Sri Lanka, Myanmar ? Did India take over territory of any of these countries? If Indian army was a trigger happy army, India would have been blazing guns every day with these country because they can't even retaliate. Why guns are heard only with Pakistan? Pakistan army has been caught lying through its teeth many times and sad part is, Pakistanis still want to believe their army is made of angels. Pakistan seems to be the case of largest mass Stockholm syndrome. People just don't want to come out of their slumber.

I have seen a movie called vertical limit. In which a paki soldier in early hour says time to wake neighbour up and start firing. Even neutral and unbiased Hollywood know that who starts unprovoked firing. Hopefully Dawn will let at lest one comment of mine publish.

@dawn lover Forever relying on numbers , aren't we . We may not have as much guns and weapons , but our Armed Forces have been working under a constant conflict so they are essentially more skilled with the little ammunition they have. India had a lot more tanks in one of the biggest tank battles , how did that turn out ? Don't want to bore you with the story of M M Alam.India had much better Hunter aircraft than Pakistan's ancient Sabres , what happened to that supremacy ? But when it comes to the battle field, numbers are an asset , but the real thing is Divine help and your skills.

Dear Pakistanis, Kashmir is divided between india, Pakistan and china J and k was independent country at the time of independence Kashmir was attacked by Pakistani. Why? King of Jk acceded to india and india sent troops to Kashmir on request of King we left half of jk to Pakistan About UN first Pakistan and china has to vacate their area then india has to vacate before any plebiscite in Kashmir. People of pak are always kept in dark by their masters
