It's already a welfare state. Whether you call it Islamic or not doesn't change the mechanics much. Welfare requires taking from the producers and giving to those who don't produce. Eventually this erodes the incentive for the producers to work harder as the rewards are transferred to others. In time the system gets weaker and weaker and people have less and less. They demand something be done and the dictator then increases punishments. Even fewer people bother with anything now and those waiting to be handed free goodies increase in numbers. An authoritarian state is the result that has very limited freedoms and little innovation. Kind of like what Pakistan is now. This of course assumed Pakistan was awesome to begin with. With already failing economy more socialist (welfare) policies are going to simply break it at the knees. Privatization and minimization of state interference in business is the only way forward that has historically turned backward regions into hubs of prosperity and wealth. When the tide of wealth comes it raises all boats, including those of the poor. @UnshacklePak

@Rohan Keep dreaming. Kashmir will never be forgotten. Imran Khan for instance is all about rebuilding Pakistan, but he still hasn't forgotten Kashmir. Just as a reminder, China controls 1/5 of Kashmir, and Pakistan and India both control 2/5th of the original Kashmir territory. Pakistan already has 1/3 of Kashmir. So of course we can't forget about Kashmir, and Kashmiris living under Indian occupation in the valley.

Personally...a secular welfare state is a MUCH better option for Pakistan

SJ & J I should first try to root out extremism and violence before talking about a welfare state.JI should stand with the govt ( whichever party is in power) against extremist groups to root out these evil forces ,without peace and broad minded ness and economic development a welfare state is not possible . To root out extremism, one of its causes namely the madressas need to be brought under control and their curricula reviewed (not westernised ) so that their graduates are not narrow minded and bigots and sectarian.JI can play an important role in bringing these changes if it is not afraid of traditional religious groups like JUI etc.

@Unshackle Pakistan Agree 100% . As Modi stated " Less Government and more governance" It is not called socialism but it's not 100% capitalism either. Everybody is given a level playing field, lobbyists are driven out, hoarding of goods especially essential items should be banned, everyone pays their share of taxes etc are the key. Religion and politics should not mix and there should be a clear seperation

Can we PLEASE keep religion out of the political sphere? This already marginalises and discriminates against non-muslims in Pakistan, whether he intended to or not is another matter. Poori dunia mein Islam ka thaika sirf Pakistan ne hi uthaya hua hai! Enough already!

Please stop making fool out of people & tell us first, while you were finance minister of KP what kind of welfare system you developed there and how successful was it? The facts are: Pakistan was sabotaged by Zia ul Haq and a proliferation of mullahs who view the world by looking the wrong way through a telescope called religious purity. Their view is locked into law, and brains have been steadily washed starting with earliest schooling. Now we see the result two generations later.

JI was against the creation of Pakistan and called Jinnah all sorts of derogatory names.

Quaid-e-Azam wanted a secular and progressive Pakistan not mullah led backward Pakistan.

Haven't we suffered enough? It is time that religion is completely seperated from goverment and sooner the better!

A welfare Islamic state by JI means more events like that of Christian couple lynching happening with state protection to the rioters and murderers....

@Ahmed the Persian Pakistani do not worry. First tell me creation of Pakistan is a mistake , is Pakistan a Islamic authoritarian state like most ummah countries or a welfare state. Then we will decide other things.
