QUETTA: At least two policemen were injured in a road side bomb explosion in Balochistan's Turbat area on Thursday morning.

The policemen were injured when militants targeted the vehicle of a District Police Officer (DPO) through a roadside bomb. Muhammad Tariq, a police official told Dawn that when the the DPO's vehicle reached Tump Grid Station, there was a powerful blast. The injured policemen were rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

"The blast also damaged the vehicle," Muhammad Tariq added.

However, he said the DPO was unharmed in the blast. Police and Levies reached the spot as investigation into the incident went underway. There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack. However, Tariq suspects the Baloch separatist-militant groups could be behind the attack.

Militants in the area have been attacking pro government personalities and security forces for almost a decade. Turbat is the home town of Balochistan's Chief Minister Dr Abdul Malik Baloch.
