LAHORE: Students of the Lahore Grammar School (LGS) made a clean sweep of the regional finals of the Dawn in Education Spelling Bee competition organised in collaboration with the US Embassy at Ali Institute of Education.

Fatima Haider from LGS Junior Branch, Ghalib Market; Hubba Shahzad of LGS 1A1 Senior Ghalib Market; and Sakina Batool of LGS Shahjamal became regional champions in 9-11 years, 12-14 years and 15-17 years age groups, respectively.

In the 9-11 years group, Syed Muhammad Rehan of The City School, New Muslim Town was the first runner-up, while Sana Zar Khan of Roots International School, Canal Campus, Model Town was the second runner-up.

In the 12-14 years age bracket, Saud Afzal Shafi of Beaconhouse School System, near Khathala on GT Road, Gujrat became the first runner-up in the regional finals, while Azka Rafey Khan of Salamat Girls Campus, Gulberg III was declared the second runner-up.

In the 15-17 years group, Mariam Abdul Rauf of Multan Public School and College for girls bagged the first runner-up position, while Reham Tariq of Musab School System, Main Campus, Johar Town, Lahore, was the second runner-up.

The Dawn in Education Spelling Bee competition management said winners of the Lahore Region finals would participate in the National Final Championship in Islamabad on Nov 18.

Ismat Riaz and Raza Naeem judged the competition.
