KARACHI: Three suspected gangsters were killed in Saturday midnight shootouts with the Rangers and police in Lyari, officials said.

They added that the Rangers and police were jointly conducting raids in areas along Tughlaq Khan Road and Adam Khan Road when they came under attack.

“The armed men in the hideouts in two different areas attacked personnel of the law-enforcement agencies when they were taking positions acting on a tip-off about the presence of gangsters in the area,” said an official at the Chakiwara police station.

In the ensuing exchange of fire, three ‘gangsters’ were killed, he said. “The two shootouts left Hanif Nagori alias Kela, Sameer Baloch and Balach Sindhi dead on the spot, while a number of other suspects have been arrested. We have also seized huge caches of arms, ammunition and explosives from their possession,” he added.

Man found shot dead in Baldia

The body of a young man with a single gunshot wound in the head was found in Baldia Town on Saturday, police said.

They added 30-year-old Shahjehan Baloch alias Ayaz was found shot dead in an open plot in Baldia Town 5-1/2.

The victim had a criminal record, the police said.

“We believe he was killed after being kidnapped by a rival gang from his residential area in Madina Colony,” said an official at the Baldia Town police station.

The body was handed over to the family after medico-legal formalities at the Civil Hospital Karachi.

Injured woman dies

A woman injured in mysterious circumstances died during treatment at a hospital where she was brought by a man who left the health facility without informing anyone, officials said.

The police said the woman had recently shifted to Islamia Colony in Karachi with her husband from their native town of Swat.

“She, later identified as Salma, wife of Bilal, was unconscious with multiple head injuries when she was brought to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where she died during treatment,” said an official at the Pirabad police station.

“The man who had brought her to the hospital left the facility without informing the staff,” he added.
