The drama that altered the course of Pakistan's entertainment industry, Humsafar, is all set to premiere on India's Zindagi TV tonight at 8pm.

The show marks the debut of the vivacious Mahira Khan on Zindagi TV.

Speaking to Times of India Mahira said, "This was my first show and it has been life altering for me. I am looking forward to its launch in India."

Humsafar also marks the return of Fawad Khan on Zindagi. His previous show, Zindagi Gulzar Hai was lauded by the Indian audience.

"This show is very close to my heart. It explores the relationship of a husband and wife and I am very close to my humsafar — my wife, Sadaf," Fawad told Times of India. "After receiving all the love that audiences in India have showered on Zaroon of Zindagi Gulzar Hai, I hope to live up to their expectations as Asher."

Fawad and Mahira were praised locally and internationally for the spark they exuded on screen. Responding to how they achieved that chemistry, Mahira modestly said, "I honestly cannot say what really worked for us. Perhaps a combination of a good script, good director and actors. Also, it's about the comfort level that two actors share. In the show, there are just a few romantic scenes; in fact, the romance is less, the longing is more."

She further added, "Humsafar is addictive, it's a good nasha to have. I remember when the show was on here in Pakistan, my friends would keep asking me what's going to happen next. And those who didn't see it when it was aired the first time, watched all episodes back-to-back because they found it very gripping."

Directed by Sarmad Sultan Khoosat and based on a novel by Farhat Ishtiaq, Humsafar is the story of Asher and Khirad who are forced into an arranged marriage by unfortunate circumstances, but eventually fall in love with each other. The story revolves around their trials and tribulations, and how they overcome the problems with true love that they harbour for one another.

Humsafar first aired on Hum TV in 2011.
