RAWALPINDI: Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) approved four road projects worth Rs1.262 billion in the garrison city on Wednesday.

The decision was made in the RDA meeting chaired by Commissioner Zahid Saeed and attended by other senior officials.

Work on the project will start next month under Punjab Annual Development Programme.

The plan includes construction of roads from Ammar Chowk to Karal Chowk, making the road at Shamsabad double, improvement of Adiala Road and Ch. Bostan Khan Road from Chaklala Scheme-III to Lahore High Court Rawalpindi Bench.

Commissioner Zahid Saeed told Dawn that work will be started next month so that all construction can be completed within three to four months. He said that roads needed urgent repair and additional lanes need to be constructed to cater to the increasing traffic flow.

“Traffic will not be impeded by construction,” he added.

He said that the pillars had been installed at metro bus service route and the traffic would start flowing smoothly in Rawalpindi in the coming days. He said that the construction of roads would solve traffic congestion in the city.

He said that the RDA will start some other mega projects after completion of the metro bus project.
