Democracy to be protected, says Shah

KARACHI: Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah has vowed to protect democracy and the Constitution.

Talking to reporters here on Sunday, he said democracy in the country would be kept intact and Peoples Party would always support it.

Referring to Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf leader Javed Hashmi’s statement in which the latter had criticised PTI Chairman Imran Khan for his decision to shift the venue of the sit-in, Mr Shah said: “It [the statement] is like an FIR against Imran Khan. Tahirul Qadri has hijacked Imran Khan.”

Mr Shah criticised the `attack’ on the Parliament House by PTI and PAT supporters and said it was the first incident of its kind in the democratic history of the country.

He said Dr Qadri, the chief of the Pakistan Awami Tehreek, didn’t respect the sanctity of parliament.
