Solutions

Published August 27, 2014

TO reconcile incompatible demands of competing parties, the following solutions are suggested:

First, resignation of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif to pacify the disgruntled and disillusioned crowd situated at D Chowk.

Second, all culprits of the Model Town massacre be brought to book with registration of FIR.

Third, a plebiscite on the country’s future system of government be held in all provinces and both houses of parliament whereby Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif could secure a vote of confidence and assert himself as an elected prime minister.

Fourth, a referendum be held by the ruling government to poll public opinion to ensure whether it is against the government or in its favour.

Fifth, re-elections be held in all constituencies where rigging has allegedly taken place.

Sixth, a neutral and honest election commission be formed with the concurrence of the PAT and the PTI to ensure its credibility and efficiency.
