QUETTA: Chief Minister Balochistan Dr Abdul Malik Baloch on Tuesday said the civilian government and the armed forces were on the same page with regard to issues relating to the province.

Speaking to reporters during a gathering organised in connection with Independence Day at Quetta's Ayub Stadium, the chief minister said the military establishment and the government were on what he called "one pitch" when it came to issues concerning Balochistan.

Traditional Balochi, Pashto, Sindhi and Punjabi dances were presented on the occasion.

Governor Balochistan Muhammad Khan Achakzai, Chief Minister Dr Malik Baloch, Commander Southern Command Lt-Gen Nasir Khan Janjua, Inspector General Frontier Corps Balochistan Major General Ejaz Shahid and provincial ministers were present on the function.

"We all stand for durable peace in Balochistan," Dr Malik Baloch said in response to a question on the law and order situation in the province.

"Independence is the blessing of Allah Almighty," Governor Balochistan Muhammad Khan Achakzai told reporters.

"Our forefathers spent precious days of their lives behind bars to gain independence from the British colonisers," he said.

Strict security measures were adopted by the administration to prevent any untoward incidents.
