ISLAMABAD: Member National Assembly and former close associate of Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N) Ijazul Haq met Prime Minister Nawaz sharif on Thursday at the PM House in Islamabad.

Credible sources told Dawn.com that the premier sought his cooperation in the current challenges being faced by the government, including the ongoing military operation in North Waziristan, internally displaced persons and the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf's threat of launching a million man long march on Islamabad on Aug 14 if the government fails to accept within a month his demands relating to fairness of elections.

"Meeting with Haq was part of a series of meetings that Nawaz has started with various political leaders," a source in the Prime Minister House said.

Haq assured full support to the government in overcoming current challenges and showed his willingness to do his best in order to secure the greater national interest.

He also reposed full confidence in Prime Minister Sharif's leadership.

During the meeting, the country's overall political situation also came under discussion.

A son of former military dictator Ziaul Haq, Haq has served as a member of the PML-N in the past but after a falling out, dissociated from the party which now rules at the centre and in Punjab.

In the year 2002. Haq later formed his own party with the name of Pakistan Muslim League – Zia (PML-Z).

Haq and his PML-Z have also offered support to the PML-N on previous occasions.
