India's Srinivasan takes over as ICC chairman

India's N. Srinivasan was confirmed as the new chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC) after the governing body approved constitutional change in Melbourne on Thursday.

Often described as the most powerful man in cricket, the 69-year-old industrialist from Chennai headed the Indian board before stepping aside earlier this year after his son-in-law was indicted for illegal betting in the Indian Premier League Twenty20 tournament last year.

“It is an honour to be confirmed as the Chairman of the International Cricket Council,” Srinivasan said in a statement after the 52-member full council approved constitutional amendments.

The ICC annual conference also elected Mustafa Kamal of Bangladesh as the 11th president of the governing body and formed a new executive committee headed by Cricket Australia chairman Wally Edwards.

under investigation for corruption charges and still elected chairman ICC. Where are all those who used to lecture Pakistan on morality during match fixing scandal of Pakistani players. Money greed and illegal means are now hall mark of ICC and every one is happy.

This will spell doom for cricket. Srinivasan is the worst possible news for the game. ICC will become a money spinning machine which will benefit a few (few means the few chosen by Srinivas) and the rest of the world will be ignored. Well done, Srinivasan for making sure that cricket is no longer a gentleman's game. I appeal to friends across the border not to make it an India-Pakistan issue. Its a matter of concern that such a person has become the Chairman of ICC, purely on the strength of dirty politics and big money. I guess the ICC wanted money without ethics. In that case I congratulate ICC. They have the right man for the job.

ICC should have waited for the Indian court decision on Sri Nivasan on corruption and other charges. This looks bad on the part of ICC and a slap on its face. Where are morality and ethics of ICC Board ?

that's one bizarre appointment; that's now the character of ICC under Big 3. He was under corruption charges and even though charges were proven or not, nowhere on earth he would have been selected as a chairman; what a shame

@Rashid Ishaq However,lots of corruption charges against Pakistani players HAVE been proved in courts of law to the extent a few of them were thrown in jail ! By the way,how is the PCB doing right now in terms of presenting an honest,competent and corruption free face to Pakistanis and to the rest of the world ? People in glass houses etc...
