KARACHI: The Sindh Assembly on Thursday passed with a comfortable majority a resolution condemning the Lahore tragedy which had claimed more than seven lives.

The Muslim league-N (PML-N) and Functional League (PML-F) members, however, protested against the politicisation of the issue, resulting in a stringent exchange of remarks between the opposition and government members.

PML-F and PML-N members said that a judicial inquiry was underway and it was not prudent to over politicise the issue.

The leader of the opposition Shehryar Mehar said discussion and condemnation should be carried over the airport attack and the unfortunate incident in Sehwan which resulted in the deaths of many devotees.

During Maher’s speech, PPP's Nisar Khoro and Sharjeel Memon criticised the opposition.

The name of Gullu Butt, the notorious baton-wielding man caught damaging vehicles in Lahore, was repeatedly mentioned by both opposition and government members during speeches.

Sharjeel Memon said that the judiciary was silent due to lawlessness in Punjab, adding that during the PPP government the judiciary took suo moto notices frequently.

In today’s session of the Assembly, under Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and Pakistan People’s Party members Khawaja Azharul Hasan, Nisar Khoro and others presented the resolution condemning the recent events in Lahore.

The members also demanded a transparent inquiry regarding the issue.
