MQM female MNA shot, injured in Lahore

LAHORE: A Member of National Assembly belonging to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Tahira Asif, was shot and injured on Wednesday in Lahore, DawnNews reported.

The lawmaker was rushed to Shaikh Zayed Hospital from where doctors had initially said that the condition of the female lawmaker was critical as a significant amount of blood had bled from the gunshot wounds.

Tahira Asif is reportedly out of danger now as the surgery she went under is completed and will be moved to a post-surgery ward soon.

SP Iqbal Town added that Asif had received two bullet wounds.

Other eyewitnesses claimed that the MNA was wounded while resisting a robbery attempt.

Meanwhile, MQM chief Altaf Hussain issued a condemnation statement against the incident and appealed to the public to pray for the well being of the injured MNA.

He also claimed that the attack on the MQM lawmaker had taken place according to a planned conspiracy and said that police was trying to portray the incident as a mugging attempt.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif taking notice of the incident and sought a report Inspector General of Punjab police.

Moreover, Provincial Information Minister of Sindh Sharjeel Inam Memon also issued a condemnation message against the incident.
