GUJRAT: The district government will upgrade the Jinnah Public School, Hafiz Hayat, to intermediate level and expand the network by establishing its campuses in two other tehsils.

Work on the JPS Lalamusa (Kharian tehsil) has already begun.

At a recent meeting, the JPS Board of Governors had approved upgradation of the institute where admissions to pre-medical, pre-engineering and other disciplines would be launched in the coming session.

The meeting, chaired by District Coordination Officer Liaquat Ali Chattha, also decided to set up another campus in Lalamusa city. The institute will purchase four new buses for which Rs17 million have been allocated. Some private vehicles for pick and drop of students may also be added to the fleet.

A 64-kanal piece of land situated within the boundary of local government academy along GT Road has been selected for the establishment of the second campus.

The BoG turned down the requisition of the principal for enhancement of monthly fee of the students and decided to enroll at least 10 needy students annually in the JPS.

The JPS had been established near the shrine of Hafiz Hayat near Jalalpur Jattan Town in 1998 as an autonomous institution. Nawaz Sharif is the patron of the school. The locality surrounding the shrine has become an education city as a campus of the Nawaz Sharif Medical College is also being built in the vicinity.
