KARACHI, Dec 16: Filthy water gushing out from various choked gutters and sewerage lines in different parts of Orangi Town have created an extremely unhygienic condition, exposing the residents of the affected localities to serious health hazards in Ramazan.

In one particular street of Orangi Town’s Sector 1-C, one can see that dirty water often remains stagnant in front of main entrances of various houses, leaving no choice for the inmates of those houses but to pass through it.

Residents of the affected locality said that although an official of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board, Shoaib, who had visited their locality on Monday to see the seriousness of the issue, had assured them that he would get the sewerage line cleared with the help of a machine, no measures had so far been taken in this regard and whenever they tried to contact the official they were told he was not available.

Filthy water overflowing from as many as 12 choked gutters for the last two months had not only spread on a street of the locality but had also accumulated all around a nearby Ebrahim Alibhoy School, a perturbed resident of the locality complained, saying that “isn’t it a pity that students of the school have no choice but to pass through the sewage water?”

The residents asked the KWSB chief engineer (Sewerage) and Orangi Town’s Nazim to order an immediate clearance of all choked gutters and removal of filthy water from their street as well as from the school’s ground, or else they and their children would become victim of some serious ailments on the eve of Eid.

BANARAS: Knee-deep sewage water stagnant almost all around Bacha Khan Chowk and on a portion of main Sharea Orangi has created an extremely unhygienic condition, besides causing inconvenience to motorists.

Although a large number of motorists moving towards SITE Industrial Area, Orangi Town, Banaras and Manghopir Road through Pak Colony’s Barra Board take Bacha Khan route, the concerned officials of sewerage department seem least interested in rectifying the fault responsible for leaking sewerage lines.

KHOKARAPAR: Dirty water overflowing from choked gutters has accumulated all around two schools, situated on street Nos 31 and 32, Khokarapar’s D-One Area, causing unhygienic condition in the locality, besides exposing the schoolchildren to serious health hazards.

Residents of the affected locality regretted that although a number of school-children had already fallen on dirty stagnant sewage water while passing through it, the officials concerned had not bothered to rectify the lingering issue of choked gutters. Office-bearers of the locality’s Friends’ welfare society have appealed to the city Nazim to order the authorities concerned to drain out the filthy water from those affected streets so that schoolchildren and residents of the locality were saved from being exposed to serious health hazards.
