KOHAT: The people of Kohat have demanded of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to order reconstruction of the Liaquat Memorial Hospital, and appointment of a surgeon, medical specialist and other essential staff on the vacant posts to make it fully functional.

They claimed most of the senior staff appointed for LMH had been working in the KDA district headquarters hospital from last several years.

They said that 13 surgeons and medical specialists were already working in the KDA hospital.

They have demanded a separate team of doctors for LMH to make it a fully functional facility for the convenience of people of the city and adjoining areas.

Moreover, LMH is situated on Hangu Highway and victims of blasts and other cases could reach it easily compared to the KDA hospital, located on the northern end of the city.

When Hayatabad Medical Complex was built in Peshawar the status of Hayat Shaheed Sherpao Hospital was not changed.

The government recruited whole new staff for the HMC.

Unfortunately, in case of Kohat after construction of the KDA hospital all machinery and staff was shifted from LMH to it.

However its emergency was forcibly opened by angry mob led by former revenue minister Qalbe Hassan.

Former MPs and chief minister Ameer Haider Hoti had promised to order reconstruction of LMH, but they failed to honour their words.

DBA POLLS: Khursheed Khattak advocate was elected president and Javed Kaghazai general secretary of the Kohat District Bar Association in its annual elections here on Saturday.

Mr Khattak secured 74 votes against his rival Abdul Rauf advocate’s 49 votes.

Other office-bearers include vice-president Jamshed Alam and joint secretary Farhan Iqbal.
