QUETTA: Police registered a case against over 100 lawyers on the charges of manhandling and injuring police personnel during a rally on Wednesday.

The lawyers staged the demonstration at Meezan Chowk, a commercial hub of the city, against a police guard who had stopped a lawyer from entering the district court premises.

They raised slogans against police and some lawyers exchanged hot words with personnel who had reached there. The exchange of harsh words led to a scuffle between lawyers and policemen, resulting in injuries to the latter.

“Six policemen received injuries in an attack by lawyers who kicked, punched and tortured them at Mezaan Chowk,” a police spokesman said.

He said a case had been registered against over 100 lawyers on a charge of beating and injuring police personnel.

He said police fired in the air to disperse the angry lawyers.

But the lawyers claimed that they were peacefully protesting against the misbehaviour of a policeman with a lawyer at the gate of district courts.

They said some lawyers received injurries when police opened fire during the clash.

No lawyer was arrested till the filing of this story.
