GUJRANWALA: Federal Minister for Health Saira Afzal Tarar inaugurated on Monday a 132KV grid station in Kolo Tarar in Hafizabad which was completed about one year before its deadline.

The minister lauded the Gepco for completing the construction of the grid station much before the deadline and expressed the hope that it would help in easing of the loadshedding.

Gepco Chief Executive Munir Ahmad said the grid station had been constructed at a cost of Rs320 million within 22 months. He said about 21,000 new electricity connections would be given to the people of the area with the construction of the new grid station.

He claimed the company would save Rs60 million per annum through line losses recovery.

MNA Mian Shahid Husain Bhatti, Development Chief Engineer Muhammad Anwer, Project Director Muhammad Bhatti, Ghazanfer Abbas Rizvi and other senior officers were also present.

Killed

The body of a robber, who was killed in a shootout late on Sunday night near Aimanabad, was still lying at the local DHQ Hospital for an autopsy.

Police said Noman alias Nomi, who was looting passers-by with the help of his accomplices, signalled a car rider and opened fire on him when he tried to speed away.

The car rider returned the fire, killing the robber on the spot while his accomplices managed to escape.

Doctors said the body would be handed over to police after an autopsy if his heirs did not turn up to receive it.

Meanwhile, at least 20 passengers were injured, four of them seriously, when a wagon overturned on Sialkot Road on Monday.

Reports said the wagon was en route from Sialkot to Lahore when it overturned and fell into a ditch near Mandiala Tega due to bursting of one of its tyres.
