KARACHI: Senior all-rounder Shahid Afridi, head coach Moin Khan and chief cricket consultant Zaheer Abbas returned here on Wednesday evening from Dhaka after Pakistan failed to qualify for the ICC World Twenty20 semi-finals following their shocking defeat at the hands of the West Indies.

This is for the first time in the seven-year-old history of the World T20 that Pakistan has failed to qualify for the semi-finals of the event.

Senior manager of the National Stadium Arshad Khan and his team received the players and officials on their return from Bangladesh.

Speaking to reporters on arrival at the Quaid-i-Azam International Airport, Moin said the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will have to take some tough decisions in order to streamline the affairs of the national cricket team.

“Our bowlers bowled badly in the last three overs and when we batted we completely failed to utilise the first six overs of the powerplay by losing too many wickets,” Moin commented.

Zaheer, while assessing the team’s show, said batting has been Pakistan’s long-standing problem and it could not be resolved in a short span of time. “We need long-term planning to improve this area,” he said.

He said they will be meeting PCB chairman Najam Sethi in Lahore on Thursday to discuss team’s performance.

Meanwhile, mercurial all-rounder Afridi said negative approach in the last league round was the main reason of Pakistan’s loss against the West Indies. “Our batsmen were unable produce the batting form which they demonstrated against Australia,” he said.

He said captaincy was no issue for him and he would keep serving Pakistan. Afridi was of the opinion that there were a good number of youngsters in the team but they were not used well.
