MUZAFFARGARH: Chief Minister Punjab Mian Shahbaz Sharif has ordered the police to register case against police officials accused of negligence in the Muzaffargarh rape case under section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act here in Muzaffargarh district.

Sources said the case was registered in PS Bet Mir Hazar against DSP Jatoi Sadar Circle Chaudhry Asghar, SHO Bet Mir Hazar Shahid Hussain, Ex-SHO Mohammad Idrees and Investigation Officer/Sub-Inspector Zulfiqar Ali under section 7ATA, police order 155c, 201, 322PPC.

However, the police was able to arrest only Sub-Inspector Zulfiqar Ali while the other accused fled from the spot.

The policemen are accused of favoring the alleged rapists of a college student, who committed suicide on Thursday in protest in front of Bet Mir Hazar police station and later succumbed to her burn injuries on Friday.

The alleged main rapist Nadir was produced before local magistrate by police on Sunday. He was sent on a physical remand for three days.

On Saturday, CM Punjab visited the victim's family and assured them of justice.

The chief minister also suspended DPO Usman Akram Gondal and made OSD to RPO.

On Saturday night DPO Dera Ghazi Khan Dr Abid Hussain took charge of DPO Muzaffargarh. The new DPO said that a special team has been set up to arrest the accused soon.
