NAWABSHAH, June 30: A 60-foot-wide breach occurred in RD-234 of the Sadhawah Minor, Nusrat Canal, near 60 Mile on Monday morning.

Crops standing over 700 acres of land and several houses in Jummo Khan Mari and Meeran Khan Mari villages were submerged by water.

Villagers and irrigation officials plugged the breach.

DEMO: A large number of growers of the Jheemal Minor held a demonstration and observed a token hunger strike outside local press club the other day to protest against water shortage in their area.

They alleged that the irrigation officials had created an artificial water shortage by selling it to influential landlords.

They demanded restoration of proper water supply to the Jheemal Minor.
