QUETTA: At least five suspected militants were killed in a gunbattle with security forces near Turbat on Sunday night, official sources said.

The Frontier Corps troops were passing through Chahsar area of Turbat when they came under attack.

The security forces launched a search operation in the area after the attack during which fighting erupted.

“Five armed men have been killed so far,” a senior official of Turbat police said, adding that firing was still continuing.

Heavy weapons, including rockets, were being used by both sides.

Sources said that more contingents of FC troops had been sent to the troubled area.

Unconfirmed reports said the death toll was higher.
