ISLAMABAD: Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has said that after nearly a decade the world is moving from militarism to diplomacy and as such the government is engaged in ending militancy through dialogue.

He was speaking to US Ambassador Richard Olson who met him here on Tuesday.

According to a statement issued by JUI-F spokesman Jan Achakzai, Maulana Fazl said the post-2014 Afghanistan would have major implications for stability and peace in the region and Pakistan would also be affected.

The US ambassador said dealing with militancy was Pakistan’s internal issue. “The US has no position on options of talks or operation. It is for the government of Pakistan to decide its tactics on dealing with militancy.” He said the US was fully supporting Pakistan’s quest to extend its writ to areas not fully controlled by it.

He said peace and stability in Pakistan was very much in the interest of the US as well.
