QUETTA: Member of Balochistan Assembly and Advisor to Chief Minister Dr Abdul Malik Baloch on Zakat Mir Majid Abro was injured in a bomb explosion in the Western Bypass area of Quetta on Saturday, police said.

Police said the bomb planted on the roadside near the Khezai Chowk area of Western Bypass exploded loudly when Abro’s vehicle was passing by.

"I have suffered minor injuries as a result of the blast," Abro told Dawn.com via telephone after the incident.

He was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment where doctors described his condition as out of danger.

Frontier Crops (FC) and police personnel arrived at the scene and cordoned off the area as a probe into the incident went underway.

Meanwhile, Dr Abdul Malik strongly condemned the incident and has summoned a report from the police.

There was no claim of responsibility for the attack.

In a separate incident, two persons were killed in a remote-controlled explosion in Naseerabad today.

Muhammad Younas, a police official, told Dawn.com that two persons were killed when a powerful bomb exploded in the Notal area of Naseerabad district.

The intensity of blast rocked the entire area and caused panic amongst people.

There was no claim of responsibility for the attack.

Naseerabad is considered to be one of the sensitive districts of Balochistan. Militants have been targeting security forces' personnel, blowing up gas pipelines and power pylons since many years.
