KARACHI, March 29: Pakistan Peoples Party (Shaheed Bhutto) chairperson and chief of Pakistan National Conference Ghinva Bhutto has expressed concern over reports of an operation in Faisalabad in which foreign commandos also took part.

In a statement, she said the government ought to give top priority to national sovereignty and independence along with its drive against sectarianism and terrorism.

Ms Ghinva Bhutto said facts on one side indicated that foreign powers had been using Pakistan like East India company to advance their interests in the region which had been causing aspersions on our sovereignty and independence. She regretted that the rulers, instead of taking the people into confidence, had been hiding the facts.

The PPP (SB) chairperson said the changing situation in the world had proved that economic slavery gives birth to political slavery. Therefore, she said, it was imperative to pursue a revolutionary economic strategy to free our economy from the influence of financial institutions so that economic problems of the people could be resolved.

She regretted that the government, despite its claim of pursuing economically independent policy, had not only failed to provide relief to the people but had further added to their miseries by imposing general sales tax on medicines.
