KARACHI: Power tariff hike slammed

Published October 22, 2001

KARACHI, Oct 21: The Pakistan People’s Party has criticized the increase in power tariff and railway fares, and demanded an immediate cutback in them.

A spokesman for the PPP said that those who were advising the government were anti-people and pushing the country into anarchy by taking such imprudent decisions.

He said the power tariff was increased four times in the recent months and also the railway fares were increased, despite the fact that the diesel price had lowered in the international market.

The Pakistan People’s Party (SB) has also criticized the NEPRA decision to allow the KESC and Wapda to increase the power tariff.

In a statement PPP SB chairperson Ghinwa Bhutto said the increase in power rates would add to the woes of people already suffering from unprecedented price hikes.
