KARACHI, Nov 8: The Sindh ranking tennis championship got off to a poor start when only two matches were organised on the opening day at the Bath Island Tennis Club courts on Friday.

According to the organisers, the programme could not take place as per schedule announced the other day due to the absence of players. It is pertinent to mention that the Sindh Tennis Association (STA) had announced to conduct matches of men’s singles, under-15 and under-13 singles on the opening day.

Meanwhile, in the two under-13 singles matches, Zubair Raja brushed aside Samir Shamshie 6-2, 6-0 while Aaffan Jawwad gets the better of Asheesh Kumar 6-2, 6-4.

Results:

Under-13 singles:

First round: Zubair Raja bt Samir Shamshie 6-2, 6-0; Aaffan Jawwad bt Asheesh Kumar 6-2, 6-4.

Saturday’s fixtures:

Under-15 singles 9.00am; under-13 singles 11.00am; men’s singles 12 noon.
