SAHIWAL, Nov 7: Around 15 new water purification plants will be installed in Sahiwal.

This was decided at a meeting chaired by Governor Chaudhry Sarwar’s son Atif Sarwar at a local hotel on Thursday.

The meeting was attended by Punjab Minister for Ushr and Zakat Malik Nadeem Kamran, Sahiwal Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) representatives, PML-N office bearers and philanthropists.

The governor had recently announced installing 100,000 water purification plants across Punjab. It was announced that the first plants would be installed in Lahore and Faisalabad districts.

Mr Atif informed the meeting that the total cost of each plant was around Rs2.5 million, however, due to involvement of the governor, the subsidised rate of each plant from the UK would be Rs1 million.

At his request, Sahiwal Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Ch Arshad Husain said two plants would be contributed by the chamber.

Sahiwal has five water filtration plants and two of them have been lying dysfunctional for the last five years.

However, the meeting did not decide who would provide funds for the plants whether its district government or provincial government or the governor would find some UK organisation to sponsor the whole project, a meeting participant said.

LIFTED: Thieves took away five motorcycles from different locations of the city during the last 24 hours.

Motorcycles of Afzal, Muhammad, Zulfiqar Ali, Munir Ahmed and Tanvir Ahmed were lifted from Y-Block, Farid Town, Mohalla Tulianwala, Shahdab Town, Ghala Mandi and Harappa, respectively.
