FAISALABAD, Nov 6: The district administration has decided to repair historical buildings, shift road and park lights including traffic signals to solar energy and launch projects for improvement of parks and green belts.

The decision was taken at a meeting to review the implementation of development projects in the district on Wednesday with DCO Noorul Amin Mengal in the chair.

The DCO directed officers of departments concerned to devise a solid development strategy within the next few days and apprise him of the funds required. He said important public parks and two main roads should be selected for installation of solar energy lights in the first phase and traffic signals converted into solar energy system.

He asked the officers to allocate special funds for PHA and renovation of historical buildings, besides taking up projects for reconstruction of five important roads, including Jail Road.

WALK: The Government College University, Faisalabad, organised a walk on Wednesday in connection with breast cancer awareness.

The walk, led by Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Zakir Hussain and Medical Sciences Department Director Prof Dr Riaz Hussain, started from H Block and culminated at the Basic Sciences Block. Participants were carrying a banner inscribed with slogans for awareness of breast cancer among the youth.

Earlier, addressing a seminar, titled ‘Pink Ribbon Youth Awareness of Breast Cancer’, the VC said 40,000 women were dying in Pakistan every year of breast cancer that required awareness among the masses.

Dr Riaz said efforts should be made to mobilise society to fight breast cancer.
