QUETTA: At least six people were killed Thursday when a bomb exploded outside a police station in a busy marketplace in Quetta, the capital of Balochistan province.

Commissioner Quetta Usman Gul confirmed the death toll and said 35 other people were also injured in the blast.

According to police, the bomb was planted in a bicycle parked outside the City police station near the City Centre market in the provincial capital.

“It was a timed device which was planted in a bicycle,” Quetta police chief Abdul Razaaq Cheema told news agency AFP. He said the bomb used up to six kilograms of explosive material.

The dead included a policeman while the injured included women and children as well as police officers, Cheema said.

The blast also damaged several shops and vehicles parked in the market.
