FAISALABAD, May 31: The Punjab government has released a special supplementary grant of Rs214.112 million to the Faisalabad district government.

Official sources told this correspondent that the Faisalabad district government had been facing a shortfall of about Rs500 million annually since its inception because of meagre revenue sources.

Meanwhile, the Punjab government refused to release the actual share of the district government out of the provincial grant.

The finance department authorities, at a recent meeting, ordered release of a special grant out of the provincial retained amount to Faisalabad.

Source said that because of non-receipt of required funds, work on scores of projects were suspended because the district government was not in a position to make payments to its contractors.

According to source, the district government had spent a huge amount for the payment of salaries to its employees from the development funds.
