ISLAMABAD, Sept 13: The final of Inter-Media Football Tournament witnessed an exciting finish with APP ending being victorious at penalty shootout against Sama TV.

The tournament was organised by National Press Club, at Pakistan Sports Complex Islamabad, which was participated by 18 teams belonging to print and electronic media.

Both teams failed to get advantage in the match and extra time duration and final encounter was decided through penalty shoots where skipper of APP team Zahid Abbasi not only struck a goal but also stopped a penalty shoot by the Sama player.

APP won by 3-1 against Samaa TV.In the third position match Journalist XI outclassed Geo TV 6-0. Afzal Javed, Rehmatud Din and Khurram Riaz scored two each.

Samar Abbas from Dawn TV and Rehmatud Din got special awards for making hat trick during the tournament.

Speaking on the occasion President Islamabad Olympic Association (IOA) Brig. (R) Arif Mahmud Siddiqui lauded the efforts of the National Press Club for organising the healthy activity for the journalists’ community.

“IOA is doing their best to promote sports in the federal capital and we will provide maximum facilities to talented players to show their abilities at national and International level,’’ he concluded.

President National Press Club (NPC) Farooq Faisal Khan, former presidents Afzal Butt, Tariq Chaudhry, Managing Director APP Khalid Sarwar, Deputy Director General Pakistan Sports Board Agha Amjad Ullah, President Islamabad Football Association Dr Fazalul Rehman and other dignities were also present on the occasion.
