QUETTA: Militants on Sunday blew up a portion of railway tracks in Quetta, temporarily shutting down the railway-link between the province and the rest of the country.

Fayyaz Sumbal, the Deputy Inspector General Police said unknown militants had planted explosive materials close to railway track in Musa Colony area of Quetta's Sariab road, which detonated causing damage to a portion of the track.

However, there was no human loss.

Train service between Balochistan and other parts of the country was suspended after the explosion.

Bomb disposal squad and other security personnel reached the blast site and conducted a thorough sweeping of the track.

Train service was resumed almost three hours after the blast.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility, however, Sumbal suspected Baloch separatist militants responsible for the explosion.

Militants have blown up railway track in the past in the same area.

The incident came a day after militants killed seven coast guards personnel in Balochistan's Makran belt.
