KARACHI, July 18: Half a dozen people, including two police officials, were shot dead in different parts of the city on Thursday.

An assistant sub-inspector was shot dead in Ferozabad in the evening, police said.

ASI Ghulam Mustafa was on duty in Sindhi Muslim Housing Society, Block-A, off Sharea Faisal, where he was attacked. He was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where doctors pronounced him dead.

“Ghulam Mustafa was killed by robbers over resistance,” said Ferozabad SHO Azam Ali Gopang. He said the victim was on duty in the area. A police head constable had also been deployed there but he had gone somewhere before the attack.

Earlier on Thursday afternoon, two policemen came under attack when they challenged suspected robbers in Azizabad.

Police constables Ghayasuddin, 40, and Mohammad Saleem, 35, were fired at when they approached two suspicious-looking persons while patrolling the Furniture Market area in Karimabad, where a cracker attack had recently been carried out, said Azizabad SHO Haseebullah Qureshi.

However, the suspects opened indiscriminate fire on them and fled.

The wounded policemen were shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors pronounced Ghayasuddin dead on arrival while Saleem was admitted for treatment. His condition was stated to be serious.

“It appeared that the suspects intended to commit a robbery when the police challenged them,” opined the police officer.

Tableeghi Jamaat activist killed

A construction work contractor, who was also an activist of the Tableeghi Jamaat, was shot dead in Nazimabad-2 on Thursday afternoon, the Gulbahar police said.

Maulana Kaleemullah, 28, was sitting at an under-construction plot when armed men shot at him and fled. He was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.

Gulbahar SHO Shaukat Ali Shah said the victim was a construction work contractor besides being a Tableeghi Jamaat worker.

Man found shot dead

A young man was found shot dead in Bihar Colony, the Chakiwara police said.

They added that the victim was identified as Amjad Behram Baloch, 20. He had sustained a single bullet in his head.

The police said it seemed that he had been kidnapped and killed before his body was thrown there.

“Amjad was a supporter of the Ghaffar Zikri gang and might have been killed by a rival gang,” said a police officer. However, he added, there was no criminal case against the deceased. He was a resident of Kalakot.

Man killed in Jackson

A man was shot dead inside his home in Gulshan-i- Sikandarabad, police said.

They added that Rehman Shah, 40, sustained a single gunshot in the chest. His family had gone to their native town in Swabi, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, when he was murdered, said Jackson SHO Sabir Khan. He added that the killed appeared to be the result of some personal enmity.
