QUETTA: The provincial capital 16 other districts of Balochistan suddenly plunged into darkness as power supply from Guddo transmission line was abruptly suspended on Thursday night.

According to Quetta Electric Supply Company (Qesco) officials, power supply from two 220kv transmission lines between Sibi and Guddo suddenly disrupted.

As a result Quetta, Pishin, Killa Abdullah, Kalat, Mastung and other central parts of Balochistan plunged into darkness.

A Qesco official, who requested anonymity, told Dawn.com that it was still unconfirmed whether technical fault resulted in the disruption of power supply to Quetta and other parts of Balochistan.

"Blowing up the line through explosives cannot be ruled out," he said.

The official said Qesco had no information about the abrupt disruption since the area was extremely sensitive and that technicians could be sent to the site tomorrow.

The sudden suspension of power supply, severely affected routine life in Quetta where people have had to endure hot weather.

It should be mentioned here that militants had blown up the same transmission line just two days before the country's historic general elections.

The authorities were able to repair the damaged line after five days.
