THATTA, May 9: Candidates of the Pakistan Peoples Party and its major rival, the Shirazi group, in Thatta district addressed a number of rallies and public meeting in different towns and villages over the last 24 hours to avail every minute of the allowed time for election campaign ending Thursday midnight.

Both the sides focused on the PPP-perceived Zulfikarabad city project in their speeches.

At his rallies and corner meetings in Gujjo, Gharo, Buhara, Mirpur Sakro, Gharo and some villages, former MNA Syed Ayaz Ali Shah Sheerazi, the independent candidate backed by the Sheerazi group for NA-238 Thatta II, said that the masses had rejected those fielded by the sponsors of this anti-Sindh project.

He told the audience that Zulfikarabad would proved to be an aliens’ state within Sindh and its population would grow bigger than that of the province. He said that the project was a conspiracy aimed at converting Sindhis into a minority within their own province and hand over all resources of Sindh to aliens in exchange of a quick buck.

PPP candidate Syed Owais Muzaffar Tappi addressing various corner meetings within their PS-88 Ghorabari constituency strongly defended the project and said that PPP had designed this mega project for the prosperity of Thatta district in particular and the entire province in general. He told the audience that feudalists were opposing the project because they wanted to keep the people of Sindh illiterate and below poverty line.

He appealed to the people of Thatta not to be misled by the propaganda against the Zulfikarabad project which, they claimed, would certainly bring progress, development and prosperity to the province and provide employment to thousands of locals.
