Dacoits gang busted

LAHORE, Dec 11: The Kotwali (City) CIA police on Tuesday claimed to have busted a gang of robbers, arresting its seven members and seizing cash, mobile phones, valuables and illegal weapons.

The gang was wanted by police in several cases of shootouts and robberies.

According to a statement, a police team constituted by CIA SP Umer Virk arrested ringleader Ashiq Jutt, Umair alias Javed, Umer Iqbal, Shaukat, Iqbal, Waseem and Musarrat during a raid.

Ashiq and Umair were proclaimed offenders while Umair had a head money of Rs300,000 on him. Their accomplice Khalid Pervez had been killed in an exchange of fire with the police in Toba Tek Singh some time ago.

The gang members confessed to committing several robberies as well as looting cash and valuables worth Rs35 million from a house in Faisalabad in February during a wedding ceremony.

SUCCUMBS: An alleged robber, who was injured in  firing by a citizen in Muslim Town area two weeks ago, succumbed to his wounds at Jinnah Hospital on Tuesday.

Police said two robbers snatched cash and valuables from Ayaz and his family. One of them was shot at by Ayaz when they were escaping. Police later identified him as Umer. — Staff Reporter
