GILGIT: The curfew imposed in Gilgit after sectarian clashes was relaxed on Monday from 07:00am to 03:00pm. Schools were also scheduled to open today, DawnNews reported.

According to the initial reports of Interior Minister Rahman Malik, the Taliban, who reportedly came from Afghanistan, were involved in violence of Gilgit.

The situation of Gilgit has improved and the curfew relaxation period has also been extended.

Earlier on Sunday, the curfew was relaxed for six hours.

In order to avoid any untoward situation in the region, the government banned residents from wearing jackets, shawls and coats, whereas mobile phone services were also still barred from operating there.

Furthermore, special passes were issued to doctors to provide medical services to the people. However, it was difficult to transport patients to the hospital.

Due to the continuous curfew, there has been a shortage of petroleum products, food items and medicines.

However, after 13 days of curfew, schools were scheduled to reopen on Monday and the situation of food items shortage was expected to improve.
