LAHORE, May 11: A strong protest was lodged on Multan Road near Mansoora against two brothers, one of them a lawyer, and the Racecourse women police for allegedly torturing to death two teenaged sisters on Wednesday.

As police tried to disperse the protesters, they reportedly pelted the law enforces with stones, ensuing a clash between the two sides.

The traffic came to a grinding halt for at least two hours during the protest.

Muhammad Younas of Hanjarwal, a rickshaw driver, who led the protesters, said his daughters Kiran (17) and Iram (14), along with his wife Wilayat Bibi, worked as maids in the house of two brothers --- advocate Imran Riaz and Rizwan Riaz – in Ittefaq Town.

He alleged that Imran Riaz implicated his wife, daughters and his 28-year-old son in a fake jewellery theft case registered at Hanjarwal police station two weeks ago after he refused to send his eldest daughter to his house for work. He alleged that the accused wanted to develop illicit relations with the girl.

He said the Hanjarwal investigation police cleared all his family members of the charges after interrogation, but the lawyer got changed the investigation.

He said the matter was then referred to Racecourse women police station, where his wife and daughters were subjected to severe physical and mental torture.

Younas alleged that because of severe torture Iram started having fits and when her condition deteriorated she was shifted to a hospital four days ago where she died.

He said on Wednesday his other daughter, Kiran, who along with his wife was released by women police, also died. Younas said she was in trauma since women police subjected the two sisters to torture. He demanded strict action against the two brothers and the women police officials responsible for the ‘murder’ of his daughters.

A senior police officer told Dawn that the allegations of torture could only be ascertained through autopsy of the deceased girls but their parents never gave their consent for the medical procedure.

In another protest, scores of people blocked the Mall Road at Faisal Chowk by placing the body of a 17-year-old boy, Hamza Tariq, there. The boy was kidnapped for Rs2 million ransom and later killed.

The protesters raised slogans against the brutal murder, demanding strict action against two arrested kidnappers.

They, however, dispersed after the assurance given by police officers that the accused would be taken to task.

TWO KILLED: A man and a woman were killed while another person was injured in two separate road accidents here on Wednesday.

Burki police said Pervaiz Masih was killed while Safdar Ali sustained injuries when a truck hit their motorcycle near Baowala Chowk.

The driver fled the scene after leaving his vehicle behind which was impounded by the police.

Model Town police said 65-year-old woman was hit and killed by a vehicle on Ferozepur Road. Began Bibi was a resident of Bahawalpur district.

Police shifted the body to Jinnah Hospital’s morgue.

SUICIDE: An ailing youth committed suicide by swallowing poisonous pills in Shibli Town of Sanda on Wednesday.

Quoting the family, the police said Zubair of Okara was upset because of his disease.

LOOTED: Three robbers deprived a security guard, Shahbaz Ali, of Rs3,000 in cash and a cell phone in Mughalpura on Wednesday.
