LAHORE, May 4: A 25-year-old man died at Mayo Hospital few hours after he was set on fire allegedly by a couple in Sootar Mohalla of Paris Colony locality, Manawan, on Wednesday.

According to the Manawan SHO, Raheel Yaqoob, who dealt in scrap business, was put on fire by Manzoor and his wife after an argument over a matrimonial issue. Yaqoob wanted to contract marriage with the daughter of Manzoor who turned down the proposal.

He said a case had been registered against the absconding couple on the complaint of victim’s brother Aqeel.

FOUND DEAD: Racecourse police recovered the body of a car showroom owner from his abandoned car parked on Dainpur Lane in GOR-I here on Wednesday.

Police suspected that 50-year-old Tariq Majeed of G-Block Sabzazar died after consuming some poisonous substance.

Some passers-by alerted the police about the body lying in the car. The body was shifted to hospital for an autopsy.

The family told the police Majeed had left his office in Iqbal Town to collect Rs300,000 from a party on Tuesday afternoon. The family found Majeed’s cell phone powered off after 5pm and his search also proved a futile exercise. A case has been registered against unidentified person(s) on the complaint of victim’s son Zeeshan.
