PESHAWAR, April 21: A man was killed and two women were injured by stray bullets in separate incidents here on Thursday.

In the first incident, Kamran, 25, of Telaband Badhber was busy in his routine activities at home when a stray bullet hit him. Police said that he was rushed to Lady Reading Hospital but he could not survive.

Similarly, a housewife Farah Naz, 28, mother of two, was also hit by a stray bullet in her head when she was sitting in her home at Khushal Colony. She was also holding her small child but he escaped unhurt miraculously.

The woman was taken to Lady Reading Hospital where doctors described her condition satisfactory, however, they did not take the risk to remove the bullet from her head.

Another married woman identified as Nihar Begum sustained bullet wounds when she was sitting in veranda of her residence at Hayatabad Phase-III. She was taken to Hayatabad Medical Complex.

Despite tall claims, police have failed to bring an end to firing in the air in the provincial metropolis. In the past, police used to run awareness drives against firing in the air with special instructions that those involved in the crime would be dealt strictly but during the past over one year no campaign has been launched for the purpose. SSP (operations) Ijaz Khan could not be contacted despite repeated attempts, however, SSP (coordination) Gul Afzal said that it was not his subject and he would discuss it with the relevant officials.

“Indeed it is a serious crime and police would surely take action in respective areas,” he said.
