Chakwal carnage

Published April 10, 2009

IF you get a chance to have some moments with the natives of Chakwal, a unique hospitality and warmth would greet you. The Chakwalis remain busy in holding and watching `karah` (a bulls show) throughout the year.

They feel a strange happiness to present `rewrI` (a kind of sweet) and `mongphali` (groundnut), both products are the hallmark of Chakwal, to their relatives.

But now a pall of gloom descends on their precious felicities as a barbaric suicide bomber finds a new place to spill the blood of humanity.

More than 20 people were torn down and more than 100 got severely injured in the bloodbath of April 5 at the central Imambargah of Chakwal.

Our leaders are again at the forefront in stringing the old chord of condemnation.

They again announced giving money to the victims` families. But who will tell them that no amount of money can compensate for a life?

My beloved city Chakwal is a great and peaceful city, that`s the phrase I used to tell my friends of other cities with a great pride. But now my city is no more a great and peaceful city.
