BANNU: A pro-government tribal elder and former head of a peace committee was killed and his son injured in a roadside bomb blast near Nullah Tochi on Sunday morning.

Police said Malak Syed Ali alias Sadali was coming to Bannu with his sons Abdul Rehman and Abid from his Ghora Bakkakhel village for a medical check-up when an improvised explosive device (IED) ripped through his car.

The tribal elder and his elder son suffered injuries in the blast that occurred near Nullah Tochi, 14km from Bannu in the jurisdiction of Miryan police station.

The injured were taken to the district headquarters hospital in Bannu where Malak Ali died.

According to relatives, it was the third attack on Malak Syed Ali who previously headed a peace committee.
