‘Team Bilawal’ website opens door to members

ISLAMABAD: A two page website allowing supporters to join ‘Team Bilawal’ has fueled further rumours about a rift between Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and his father former president Asif Ali Zardari.

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) already has a functional youth wing but Team Bilawal appears to be aimed at garnering Bilawal Bhutto his own support base.

There is a rift between father and son if media reports are to be believed. Bilawal did not come to attend his mother’s death anniversary which he has never missed in the past.

The website (www.teambilawal.org) says that the Pakistan People’s Party at its outset was the youth of Pakistan.

“Commencing from where it ceased. Bilawal Bhutto Zardari brings hope for the youth bulge that is more than 60 per cent of Pakistan’s population. Pakistan is now to be youth-lead and youth-driven.”

It further says that transfer of power to the younger generation can result in a better society based on peace and social cohesion and goes on to discuss the potential of youth. The website urges young people to come forward and take responsibility.

On the website, potential members of Team Bilawal can fill a form and submit it. The form asks for basic information such as date of birth, name, address etc. and asks potential members to provide details of skills and experience. The applicants are also asked to detail their reasons for wanting to join Team Bilawal.

The website has the same name as Twitter account @TeamBilawalPPP which has been posting official updates of activities of Team Bilawal as well as reposting Tweets by Bilawal Bhutto, Asifa Zardari and PPP leaders.

Spokesman of former president Asif Ali Zardari, Farhatullah Babar, was contacted to confirm the authenticity of the website. He responded that he will check with the concerned section of Bilawal House Karachi and will get back soon.

However, two hours late Senator Babar had not called with a confirmation.

This basically is the PLAN-B from Zardari....he knows that he himself can't regain the popularity from "Zardari" brand....so he now wants to create a new brand "Bilawal".....for that the 1st and very logical step would be distance "Zardari" brand from "Bilawal" brand.....so that the later attracts people.....and then when the popularity is gained......all will come once again under single "PPP" brand umrella and nobody will ask why..........this is a smart move from Zardari.....

We need a sensible third force and a resurgent youth led PPP on the political scene where a 62 years old poses himself as youth of Pakistan and a family business governs in the name of democracy. I am cent percent sure that Bilawal's heart is at the right lace, he just needs to come out of this Bhutto dogma and carve out a political identity complying with needs of 21st century Pakistani society and its youth bulge.

Please focus on work, rather marketing tactics … people of Karachi is still waiting to resolve the basic issues of infrastructure like mass transport, construction of flyovers, reconstruction of roads and improvement of law and order situation and street crimes etc. we have tired to listen the excuses from Sind government regarding Karachi circular railway, although Japan is ready to build the infrastructure, but Sindh government is still expressing their excuses and showing their unserious behavior… Please work on these basic issues rather marketing tactics!

this is all a big drama by zardari. in 2017 bilwal will come back and ppp will say zardari has resigned as co chairman but he will be the one pulling all the strings in the background, this way ppp will gain some popularity in time for next elections

The time for gimmicks, slogans, empty promises, thousands of ghost schools in Sindh, Benazir beggars support program, jobs for friends and "quotas and not merit" is long gone. He can not win ONE seat in elections for PPP. In a party where we have people like Aitzaz Ahsan we have this little boy as chairman. What a shame. Old men he used to call uncle are now learning politics from this little boy who has never done a days job anywhere (who would employ him and why is another question!!). Why do these leaders (of PPP and PMLN) think that all Pakistanis are stupid?. I just looked at the website. What a waste of time.

Musharaf should have made it mandatory for members of Parliament & Senate, Head of political parties and anyone interested to publicly voice & impose their views to hold a valid degree in a course specifically for Politicians covering political sciences, ethics and religious tolerance (not an honoury degree which can be bought!). That's the only way to get rid of these incompetent leaders who have eaten the past, present and future of Pakistan.
