ISLAMABAD: Foreign Office spokeswoman Tasneem Aslam on Thursday said no car was offered by India to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for the upcoming SAARC summit in Nepal, adding "so there was no question of turning down the offer".
"Prime Minister Nawaz will attend the summit," Aslam told reporters in Islamabad.
On Nov 17, a Nepalese official had said that Prime Minister Nawaz rejected the use of a bulletproof car provided by India for summit of South Asian leaders in Kathmandu.

Sharif “will be bringing his own car ... all other vehicles for [visiting] heads of countries have come from India”, Nepalese foreign ministry spokesman Khaga Nath Adhikari had said.
The South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation summit will see the leaders of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, the Maldives, Sri Lanka, Nepal, India and Pakistan meet in Kathmandu on November 26 and 27.
Speaking on Afghan President Ashraf Ghani's visit to the country, the FO spokeswoman termed it as successful.

At the end of his two-day path-breaking visit, Ghani had vowed to open a new chapter in ties with Pakistan.
“We must overcome the past … we will not permit the past to destroy the future,” he had said at a joint press conference with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
She also emphasised on Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu's visit to the country, saying that it was extremely important and bilateral cooperation between the two countries were expanding.
"Cooperation between Pakistan and Russia is increasing and ties are on upward trajectory," Aslam said.

Ego. Nothing else. India has not offered any car to Nawaz. India offered the cars to Nepal as a decent neighborly gesture and it is up to Nepal Govt. to allocate these cars to visiting heads of states. It is Nawaz's ego which is not accepting this and wasting lots of tax payer's money to bring cars for his use from Pakistan.

This episode is so incredibly funny. One doesn't have to respond to everything. If the foreign office was quite, the "snub" would have been forgotten. Her's must be one of the toughest jobs, always seen in bad light. Are some of these reporters making up stories?

I don't think that cars were offered to individual leaders. Indian Govt. must have a certain number of cars to the Napalese administration to use as they thought fit. Bur, whenever somebody takes India's name, Pakistanis always have problems. Grow up people.

India is the only SAARC country that is connected to Nepal by road. So, Transporting a car will be lot easier than any other country. Pakistan has to airlift it. What is wrong in accepting the car. Well. if Mr. Sharif doesn't want that, which is fine as well. Why the spokespersons have to make a big deal about this?

Truth is that India offer Cars to Nepal as Goodwill gesture to support neighbor. India never offered any car to any PM. Nepal offered car as he is host. But, Pakistan denied to Nepal that it will not use car brought from India. It's fine, nothing wrong in full episode. Don't know why so many News in Pakistan Newspapers.

She is technically correct. It is the host, who in this case is the Government of Nepal, who provides the transportation for visiting dignitaries. But as Nepal being a poor country obviously does not have that many cars and could not procure/lease them in time, India, when requested by Nepal, provided these cars. If PM Sharif wants to spend Pakistani Tax payers' (a rare breed) money, it is no skin of India's nose.

India did not offer cars to any SAARC country head, just to Nepal who is the host to use them as it thought fit. Pakistan chose to turn down Nepal's arrangement and fly its own car at taxpayer expense. How is it shameful of India? If anything, it is Pakistan who stood out like a sore thumb by turning down arrangements made by the hosts.
